It's been a while since I've been on here. I swapped engines on my 74 comet about 4 summers ago just before I headed off to college. I'm finally home doing some student teaching and am thinking about finishing the engine swap in my spare time... When I parked the car I remember something not lining up with the shifter linkage under the hood. I put in a straight 6 to replace the old one I blew. I thinking however that there was a mounting bracket of some sort that the rod gets seated in, and this bracket mounts to the engine itself. Can anyone give me any advice, take a picture of the spot where the linkage is under the hood, or recommend a fix it that is reliable? If my memory serves me right it seems there should be a hole that the rod is seated in. Any help would be great! Oh yeah it's an automatic that I'm talking of. Thanks, Bryan

There is a L shaped plate that bolts on under the engine to bell housing bolts. There is also a frame mount that bolts onto the top of the drivers side frame rail behind the shock tower. Did you go from a 200 to a 250? My '72 originally had a 200 in it and I had to change the entire linkage and frame mount when I put the 250 in. None of the 200 linkage lined up right with the transmission or engine.
