Im in need of getting my steering box rebuilt and not really looking to try to do it myself, does anyone know of a shop in Georgia that rebuilds them?

    Thanks,
    Zach

    Greetings Zach,
I do not know of one off hand, you might try contacting Melvins Classic Ford Parts in Conyers... I bet they know of someone.

I was at lunch with a friend the other day. he was telling me how easy it is to do. he swaps the parts around with other make boxes to change the ease of steering. I will see him tomorrow and see if he would like to do your box...(y)

if you look up stangerssite.com, you will see a reference to all steering boxes made by ford. they're either with a 1" or a 1 1/8" sector shaft. the latter is the maverick box. you can get the rebuild kit from him!

    Frank,

Are you hinting at a way to change ratios? ... If so, you definitely got my attention.

So many of us have done away with PS, and I have lived with the PS box unboosted ... not bad until parking speeds.

I won't switch to a manual box ... too many turns. In a couple of panic situations in my white car, I am sure the manual box was working a bit against me.... too slow to do what I needed it to do, especially at higher speeds, and crossed up.

Just as a rough idea now, if there was a ratio, perhaps just 1/3 looser than the PS box, it could be really good overall. I want to look a little more at the math here.

I was going to check the strangers site and isn't it the same box as like a 68 mustang or are they different?

There is a lot of play in the steering... The front suspension has been rebuilt and the alignment is good... I know there will be some play naturally but I think it's a little excessive... A lot of steering movement before the wheels actually turn.
