who is running shorty headers and which brand and make every set i find have the larger 1 1/2 tubes where most of the long tubes are 1 5/8s wasnt sure if th elager tubes cleared the shock towers well or not
Well, running would be an overstatement. But, they're installed. I have Doug Thorley shorties installed. 1 5/8 tubes. Headers clear everything but the pitman arm hits the connector. Had to put about a 3/4" indent in the 3" section of the connector.
Yes, "fixt". Since the indent was in the 3" part of the connector and I'll have 2.25" pipes I'm thinking the indent ain't no big deal. Saw some posts that said those headers were $600 but I got them on sale for $400. Had to swallow hard to pay that but I do like them.
ok im dumb here so the 1 1/2 inch tube headers are smalle than he 1 5/8 tubes i wanna be clearon this someone has mislead me but hey i guess i should have done my math home work ...lol
Yeah, a lot of people don't get along with fractions. Here's your lesson for today: 1/2 = 4/8, which is 1/8 less than 5/8. I love my Doug Thorley shorties.
ok thanx for setting me straight on that hat tipped! Now i need to know will the smaller tube headers 1 1/2 inch tubes fit and clear everthing any better than a larger tube header such as the 1 5/8 tubes i know alot of people run the hedman and hooker long tube headers and they seemto be the large tube.i about to buy a set of headers and was wanting a ceramic coated set can anyone make any suggest as to what i should check into
No one make's 1 1/2 long tubes for the 289/302 mavericks someone makes 1 1/2" 351W swap headers ive never seen 1 1/2" shorty headers for our cars
ive seen both summit racing brand headers says they are 1 1/2 inch tubes and headmen makes a shorty header thats also 1 1/2 inch tubes
you are correct on the hedmans i just checked they're 1 1/2" i've only gotten 2 hours of sleep the past 3 days sorry for the misinformation.....
The test results that I have seen on "shorty" headers show almost no increase over the stock manifolds unless a larger dual exhaust is used. If you use the larger dual exhaust with your factory manifolds you get virtually the same power increase. Most are advertised at up to 20 HP difference but it is all in the larger dual pipes - not in the "header".
Nope - I have just lived longer and seen more than most. I try to stay educated and know some about a lot of stuff and not so much about other stuff.
so how much more power ddo long tubes headers produce than the shortys, i was just looking for better ground clearance
