Doing work on the car and I am planning on replacing the rear shocks tomorrow. Should I stick with the standard or put in air shocks?

    Which ones would be better?

the air shocks will rip the mounts off. Get standard shocks. If the car is too low, then get new springs.

New ones will make the rear end set higher? Does that allow for bigger wheels? Are there alternatives such as some type of spacer?

Sounds expensive - what would the cheap route be? I'm always down for a trip to the local wrench-n-go junkyard.

Definately do not go with air shocks, cause our shock crossmember sill end up looking like this..... The bolts are how someone tried to fix it.....

I like my rearends really "high" and jacked up..... so I had a custom set of helium charged shocks made.....I took them off as they did limit traction in a drag race.....the rear would try and squat on take off but the helium would make it rise back up to ride hieight to fast. So I lost some 60 ft time. Anyway I made some liquid concrete charged shocks and now it has the best 60 ft time ever(I admit it rides fairly rough now though)......anyway those helium charged shocks are for sale to anybody interested. but be carefull you have to tie a string to them once unbolted from a car or they will fly away:p

it Wont exactly make it higher. It will just bring it back to stock height. But it depends on how worn out the springs are. Spacers wont work because the axle is on top of the springs, so using spacers lowers the vehicle. The alternative would be to get econoline springs from the junkyard. Theres a "how to" in the tech article section.

New leaf springs are $200 for the pair. Can be quite the adventure to change. Buy new eye bolts and a shackle kit while your at it.
