I have a 1976 Maverick Stallion that I want to restore and my hood is in really bad shape. Theres a fairly bad rust spot on the outside of the hood and when you raise the hood up on the inside almost the whole hood is rusted. I think the whole hood should just be replaced because my motto is if you are going to do something then do it the right way the first time. But my father who is wanting me to restore the car says that the hood can be repaired. Neither one of us knows all that much about restoring cars and the person that I'm going to have doing the restoration job isn't available to look at it right now. So any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Should the hood just be replaced or can something as bad as that be repaired in some way?
Best way to fix rust is just to get rid of it. A Stallion hood is the same as any other flat hood. So You would be better off finding a rust free one and be done with it. BTW Welcome to the MMB
If it were a Grabber hood, which is quite hard to come by, I would say repair it. But the Stallion hood is a common flat hood, so I would recommend simply replacing it rather than go through all the trouble of trying to repair it.
Yea I was thinking the same thing it is better to just replace the hood but I wanted other people's opinions about it so thanks for the help. If the part was hard to find then I could see the point in trying to salvage what you have but I've found part sites for the hood. I just wish the grille for it was easier to find so if anyone on here knows some sites I could try that might have one of those then let me know.
