ok I've been trying to rattle can my car. I took off the side markers and was cleaning them up and found that I was sanding off the fogy bit around the lens... Now I'm trying to decide if I should continue to sand it off and do the same to the rest or should I repaint the side makers and if I go that route should I just repaint that foggy area or should I repaint the whole thing with the exception of the lens of course?

I painted the entire housing semi-gloss black.

If you spray just the lens with a good clear coat, it will make it look brand new! :)

As long as the chromed plastic is still good - it can be cleaned and shined up very effectively with a metal polish like Flitz and a little 0000 steel wool - the rest of it gets painted with Ford Argent grey color.

    :)

all the housing are good with the exception of one which the outer most chrome ring has a 1/4 part of it crushed a little.

here is a dumb question should I melt the retainers to separate the lens from the chrome/grey outer housing and if I did to reassemble would I melt it again or just glue it?

Yes on melt. I use an exacto knife and carefully trim the flash away from only ONE of the posts. It is usually brittle and breaks away easy. Once one side is loose it will tip out. There is a foam gasket in there - save it if you can. To assemble again, tip it back in on the one side and pop it back together. then use a soldering iron to melt the tab back to lock it all in place.

I used Duplicolor? silver brake caliper paint with ceramic on mine, other than not being chrome, they look pretty factory.

Once assembled on the car, they are not going anywhere...so there is no real need to melt the tabs again.

I always use Simonize in liquid form to clean plastic lenses like those. I helped a friend do the tail light lenses on his Javelin, all the AMC guys were asking him where he got new lenses from.

What year Mustang for those? They look very much like a 70. Has anyone tried them?

The mustang lens is the same. It is repopped and it looks good, but for you purists, it does not have the FORD script on it.

Mustang Bezel, while looking like it will fit, does not. The shape is different.
