i finally have obtained all three pieces of the skinny style trim for the pass side of my car.they are in great shape and i got out the door for all three for about $50 or so.my car must have been side swiped on the pass side because the trim that is on it is all the glue on kind.driverside is all original.i have had the car for about four yrs now and finally i am going to have the few things that need to be done to the body done this winter.the back quarter has the holes in it so i guess theres no problem putting the trim on it with the clips that thread on.the front fender i imagine i can get to enough of the inside of it to drill holes and also use the clips that thread on.this is where i need help.can i take apart the door enough to drill holes in it to use the same kind of clips that i have?originally the door had "studs" on it for lack of a better term right?the door thats on it now doesnt have them.its smooth.thanx for any help.
i think there is more to it than that. my LDO trim had little studs that were down the side of the car. i had to grind them off when i did away with it. i don't know if you can get them or not. Newtofords, is removing his trim so he might be the one to ask. maybe he could post or send you a pic. ......
unlike the rear 1/4 there is not a bunch of those clips drilled in along it. in the door there are just 2. one to the far right and the other to the far left then between the 2 is a few of those studs your talking about. those studs have a plastic clip over them then the actual trim clips ovre those plastic pieces. the chrome along the top of my comet used the same process.
The studs are welded on. It takes a special tool/gun to weld those on. The studs hold on the plastic clips. You can just pop-rivit on the plastic clips.
