Hi there, I just want to know if the 4 door maverick small bumpers are the same as the 2 door mavs. Do they have the same brackets and mounts, etc. Will they fit a 2 door mav?

Also, are the front and rear valances, rear extensions, fillers (stone guards), front fenders from the 4 door the same as the 2 door???

The bumpers are the same within the group sizes. in the US, there are 3 different sizes for the front and 2 different sizes for the rear. The front bumpers are small on the 70-72 years, medium size in 73, and large size from 74-77. The stone guards and mounting brackets are the same within the groups. For the rear, there are 2 different sizes. small from 70-73 and larger from 74-77. Mounting brackets are the same within the groups except for 73. Those are more beefed up and push the bumper out further. Front valances were on our cars from 70-73. The 73 has a different, larger opening but will bolt on just the same. The rear valances are the same from 70-73. There are no valances on Mavericks after 73, in the US. It does not matter whether it is 2 door or 4 door.

The rear quarter extension are different between the 2 door and 4 door.

Thanks a lot man, now I'll just have to get some money to get the parts.

Another question, will front valances bolt on the big bumpers mavs, or is it necessary some modifications?

I think in that paragraph, you just about answered every "are these the same" question about bumpers... and I just saved it... cause I will be needing this later. (y)

    Thanks!

70-72, all the same. 73, all diffrent except the rear bumper and valance. 74 and up all the same. As said, 4 door and 2 door extensions aren't interchangeable.

They will bolt on but you will need to support the center of the valance with a bracket of some type and you will probably have to modify them to clear the bumper mounts. I've never tried to put a valance on a big bumper car before, (unless I was converting the whole thing to small bumpers), so I dont know for sure.

yeah, I want to do the conversion, for example, let's suppose I got 70-72 front fenders, bumpers, brackets, valances, etc. All of these would work, except for the valance that will need some modification. When the valance is done everything will just bolt on like if the car was meant to, isn't it?

the early valence will bolt onto a big bumper car without any mods, using existing holes.

Yep, Thanks for this info guys, I really appreciate it. It will make the conversion easier than I thought. Now to get the parts, I hope the parts in the nearest junkyards are in good conditions and at an affordable price. :)

I'm looking, in the future, to convert my 73 Comet's front bumper into one of the older smaller versions. What would I need to make sure anything pre-73 would fit right? It sounds like it's not exactly bolt-on (that'd be too easy  )

    You need:
    Front bumper and brackets
    Should bolt right on.

The valance doesn't absolutely need to be changed... However, the 73 valance is substantially different and, IMO, doesn't look right with a small bumper.

The rear bumper is much easier... You just need a set of small brackets to pull your bumper in where it belongs. IIRC Mustang brackets work as well as the Mavs, but I might be wrong.

    Good luck
    Dave
