I'm in the process of mocking up my 72 rear bumper on my 77 Mav. No matter how I try, the bumper looks to set out too far from the taillight panel and too much space between the bumper and quarter extensions. Has anyone else run into this when doing the conversion? Will grinding the brackets down help any with this or am I missing something here?? If you've got pics, post them or somebody give me some measurements on the gaps between extensions and bumper, body and bumper and taillight panel and bumper!! I don't have any holes drilled yet so I want to make adjustments now before I finish priming it out.
    Thanks in advance!!

The rear bumper should sit off the body about 1/2 inch all the way around ...

Are you sure you sure you have a 72 bumper mounts or are they 73?? Here is the gap you will have with 73 mounts.

Do you have the lower quarter extensions?
I am pretty sure the bumper will look 'gappy' at the ends if you don't have all the extensions in place... Upper and lower for each side.

The mounts came off my 72 parts car but the bumper came in a trade from a 71. The bumper is straight with no bows in it. I've measured my gaps and they are: 1 inch from extension to bumper and 1 1/4 inches from bumper to rear quarter panel. Thats with the bumper bracket slid up as high as it will go (against the bottom of the taillight panel). I know when I drill my holes and tighten the bolts it will move in some but 3/4 inch- no way!! I've also noticed that the bumper seems to point out away from the car instead of down the body line on both sides. I've been looking at the gallery for some pics but have'nt seen any close-ups.
    Thanks for the replies!!
