ok so as bad as it sounds i really have no choice this year but to put snow tires on my mav and hope for the best...i'm curious if anyone has put snows on there mav and what type of results they had in the snow. i plan to put 2-300 lbs of weight in my trunk. any suggestions?

Works pretty good. If your buying snows, just a hair narrower than stock, puts weight in smaller area. Some guys will spray underside of body with oil, helps keep salt attacks away. Good Luck!

I'm sorry you have to do this. I'd put LOTS and LOTS of oil on it.

I got around in winter with snow tires and no extra weight in the trunk with no problem. A skinnier than stock snow tire would be best. Another option is to get studded snow tires, but in some places, they are not allowed.

Rust proofing the car would also be a good idea.
