    Hello everyone,
I just picked up a one owner 71 Comet 250 c-4. This car is very nice. Original everything to include purchase receipt and all service records dating back to 71. Anyway here is the plan for the car. I've got a 351c short block with Speed pro forged pistons, eagle H-beam rods and all appropriate restrictors in place. I am going to top the engine off with a pair of CHI 3v 185cc heads and matching intake. Now I have seen windsors in Mavericks and Comets before, but never a cleveland. I know it was done back in the day when the cleveland was the small block of choice. But what kind of work does this entail? Will it fit between the shock towers or do I need the notch them? Do I really need to cut the tranny tunnel to run and AOD? I was told that before on my 70 Ranchero and it dropped right behind the cleveland. Please help if you have any answers. Also has anyone ever seen or ran the auto krafters headers for this application. PN ES74V? Thanks.

The headers are not Auto Krafter's... They are Tubular Automotive headers that AK is selling as a retailer. You can get them from tubular.
I have had 3 sets of Tubular headers. Good stuff.
The ones you are looking at come as 8 separate tubes that you put on one at a time, then install the collector.
The Cleveland exhaust ports point down to the ground, so headers are available with much larger tubes than the W engines. They need to be installed from below for the most part.
My C went in without issue. I didn't shave the towers or anything, BUT it would help for plug changes, otherwise the engine needs lifted up to access them.
I don't know about structural mods for the AOD, but it should work with the C engine fine. I converted mine from a C4 to Toploader, which is a more traditional swap.
Anything else I can help you with, let me know.
    Dave

thanks for the info. I was wondering if tubular has website or contact number. Do you have pictures of your engine compartment? I'm interested to see how close the fit is. Oh and are you using torque straps on your car?
    Thanks

The engine is no longer in the car.
I have one pic on my site, doesn't tell alot... just a C in a Mav.
    No torque straps.
I broke my engine mounts a long time ago, so I just drilled a hole through all three parts and put a G8 bolt through the mounts snugging up to the rubber and leaving it. The rubber still insulates and the mounts cannot come apart.
