so i have reason to believe that my transmission is slipping after the 2-3 shift, and i need to upgrade it soon neway because i plan to get a 302. so my question is, how would one go abot putting in a AOD transmission. i want it for better gearing, and strength compared to my current c4...thanx 4 the advide in advance (y)

It is my opinion that the C4 when assembled for a V8 is stronger than an AOD. When built the C4 can handle more than 1000 hp I haven't seen any AOD's that can do that. At Broader Performance they sell a street and strip AOD for $1800 - their drag race transmission is better than it and it is rated at 500 hp with a price of "call for quote". They have a street and strip C4 that goes for $8 -$900 and it is rated for 500 hp. They have stronger C4's for less than the street and strip AOD.
You can't put a C4 built for a stock six behind a 302 stock or not and expect it to survive. To make the C4 work for a V8 the most you have to do is replace the clutch drums, input shaft and servo for 2nd. Put a TransGo reprogramming kit in it and you have a street and strip tranny.
With the AOD you have to fit the TP valve control just to make it work. You already have the linkage for the C4 kick down.
Unless you are running 3.90 gears or steeper the C4 is good to go for highway cruising.
