If I had it to do over I probably wouldn't have let my Big mouth overload my Big a$$ by saying I would race the event in an 8-9second car The Sheeeiiit I've gone through to get this done... NHRA chassis certification...remove and replace 2 struts and add 2 struts and a reinspection NHRA membership, Medical physical and NHRA comp liscense Double layer fire suit (hot bastid)... shoes, gloves, neck brace, and Snell 2005 Bell helmet...I hope they ask to see my underwear...I got somethin for em. Willans 6 point harness. Halon fire extinguisher, new tranny shield, new catch can and relocate fuel pressure gauge isolator, double spring throttle return bracket and a bunch of little piddly crap...did I mention the 300 bucks it's costin me to run my class and admission fees. Gee I can't wait till next year when it's on a 25.1 chassis and it's in the 7's I'll shut up now...just had to vent a little
I figured you would have to do somethings....but not that much! I have been in one of the suits before...they are hot! Looking forward to hearing how it runs in the 1/4. Good luck and be safe!
This is why my all motor car will never be faster the the low 10's I'm running now!! I could be in the 9's without any problems except Rick just proved my point. Thank you Rick. I'm very sorry that you had to go through all that BUT Speed COST how fast do you want to GO! What a PAIN As always just my .02 Terry Gates AKA Bossmav
"Ya wanna play, Ya gonna pay"....I posted this as more of a warning/info for those that may be thinkin about runnin an NHRA event, there is a pretty wide gap in enforcement policy between NHRA and IHRA. I could have easily de-tuned the car to run a slower 1/4 mile et and saved myself some hassle. "Snivlin"....you don't see much of that in this level of competition and when you do there usually wearing a "bowtie"
NHRA=No Hot Rods Allowed. Im gonna have to go along with Frank on this one. It ain't cheap. That's why mine is JUNK and I stick to the little tracks. May not be as much money or glory, but hell I ain't here to be famous--yet. I don't need to be the guy bragging about his timslips, wins or accomplishments....being the center of attention is not my cup of tea. I've been in racing long enough and have been respected by thousands, even feared by fellow racers...and that is enough. Heck, if I knew the guy I was running against had one runner up appearance and one semi final appearance in 2 races...and in 11 rounds had no worse than a .512 reaction time...hell yeah, I'd be a little worried too....... Maybe something will come up in the future......
So, Rick, 'ol buddy. I think you've just confirmed that an idea I have is a good one. I have this 1970 Mav with 8-point cage, rectangular sub-frames, stock rear and front suspension, no interior, and no drivetrain. I thought before I went any further, I would load it on the trailer, haul to the NHRA strip on a Test-'n-Tune night, and let the tech inspector tell me if what has been done so far is adequate and what else needs to be done to run in mid to upper 8's.
all i can say is good luck.... i would love to have a car as fast as yours, and or at elast go down the track once or twice in a car that fast... mine will never be there... good luck
wait'll you put on that 3 layer pants, jacket & collar in the afternoon in august & sit in the car waiting for your lane to move. that's why i keep my car running at 10.10 at 134. i also added a 12 volt fan that blows right on my face. helps keep my glasses from fogging up.
Amen to that Terry I'll tell ya a better way to do it...accompany me Saturday morning to the tech inspection line....there so anal we have to have our cars teched every day we run....pfffft...good grief.
It's just a number... how many times have I heard that! I couldn't tell you the number of times I've lost to a 12 or 13 second car. Speed is nice and once you been bitten it's hard to give it up, I just can't bring myself to wear all that fire protection and the FFW events are day events so I'm sure it going to be HOT. Richmond and Bristol are. We are bracket racers, so if it's foot brake or delay box it's still comes down to the number on the window. Rick my hat is off to you, that a lot of work and now a lot of pain. NHRA is mostly all I run, IHRA I think is 9.50 before things start to get tight and you are right about the NHRA inspections... they are a Bit$h! Good Luck with it and do everyone a favor, WIN! dont misunderstand, i do have all of the equipment to take out the ballast & run under 9.99: i just dont do it very often. i went to the motorsports nats a few yrs ago at maple grove. forgot i had one bar out of the car & first tt went 9.91. it was july & about 90 degrees already, so i put the bar back in instead of reteching the car.
