In Crane's Energizer line Summit lists the same part number for their 1.6 rockers for both SBC and SBF. Then their BBC 1.7 rockers have the same part number as the Ford cleveland/BB rockers. Is this correct? Or was it a misprint in the summit catalog?.... If it's true then could I use a set of their gold 1.6 SBC rockers on my 5.0 with the same size studs? I found a brand new set for dirt cheap. Like cheaper than scorpion rockers.
i believe this to be correct. but a part fitting various applications may not fit your specific engine. in the case of rocker arms, this has to do with ratio, arm length and spring diameter. best would be to measure what you need and go from there...
You got the part numbers right. The reason why most don't use SBC stuff is the stock rocker ratio is 1.5 where Ford's are 1.6, which means that there are gains to be had in going to 1.7's in a Ford as the price of the rocker stays the same. Then there's the distance from the rocker stud center to the valve to consider. Many aftermarket Ford heads use the same dimension here as a SBC head does. Ford Cleveland heads were a direct result of Ford's "borrowing" the canted valve design from Chebby in the mid 60's when Chebby wanted to run the 427 in Nascar before they put it into production cars.
Call Harland Sharp and talk to them. They will explain why you dont wanna use chevy rockers on ford They are great to talk to and sell a high quality producct!
Yup I knew everything about the rocker rations and the canted valves. I was just suprised that they are the same part. I would have guess they'd at least change the number a bit. Thanks for the info guys! I'll still pick up the rockers. They're only $130 Brand new in the box, the guy doesnt even know what he's selling. I'm pretty sure I can double my money and get a nice set of rockers for my street engine maybe even a set of pushrods.
