i decided it was time to take down the ceiling in my maverick to put new ceiling in so i did what any other kid would do....i pulled it down LOL little did i know that it would smell like hampster crap because their were rodents living in their along time ago!!! i had like 2 cups of rodent crap!!!so i guess why they call it a ratrod lmao...ok so it wasnt funny... ok this is how it works original owner sold it to mike then sold it to me then i decided to work on the interior ceiling but the original owner had the rodents, not mike, or me anyways, any suggestions before i get started on it???
use a vacuum and vacuum everything out then wash it with a mild detergent/water mix, and finally put on a sound/heat/rust protector(aka POR15,rustbullet).
If your going to install a new "Headliner" like the one that the car came with, make sure to save those rods, and don't mix them up, they have a certain order to them.
Wear some sort of respirator/dust mask(I know... too late)Before you clean out the rest of the poop. The bacterium that live in that stuff are NASTY buggers. The rods that hold up the head liner need to go back in where they came from as Dave said.If you install them in the wrong locations you will "Never" get the headliner right. That said... the best way to do a headliner in one of these cars is to pull the windshield and the backlight(rear glass) since the headliner is glued to the pinch weld underneath the weather stripping that holds the glass in place. It can be done without glass removal but it is a beotch to put it mildly(and not the correct way to do it).It really is easier to do it with the glass out and the glass really isnt difficult to remove(installation is another matter)Now... If you have never installed a stitched fabric headliner before dont go any further till you do some research and reading. It isnt rocket science but,It will be a difficult job if you have no experience.Take your time with the car and go slowly and delibirately when you tackle a project and think things through before you turn a wrench.Jumping in with both feet can be fun but it can also cause you problems you dont need from time to time.We have all been there and learned a few lessons the hard way as will you with your new toy.So... enjoy it but, try to have a plan.It can make things go smoother and be alot less aggrivating.Good luck and have fun...
Just be glad you didn't find any of them still in there dead... I found three of them mummified under the back seat in my '74 Grabber a few years ago. It had been sitting in a wheat field for like 12 years...
LOL Man i'm glad there wasn't anything like that in mine... Only thing I found was a spider that was living in one of the hubcaps. He now resides in my backyard.
