I have 3-way 6 1/2" pioneer speakers up front under the kick panels. I had to cut out some square holes for the sound to get through and for a little added clearance for the tweeters. Here is some pics of what I have, I still need to find some small factory square speaker grills that I will put on the panels and then I plan on spraying them black with krylon fusion paint.

You can also put an aftermarket speaker (dual voice coil) in the dash.

The only thing I would recomend is doing it to a spare set of kick panels so that if you ever decide to go back to stock you can. I just took my originals out and put them up. :thumbs2:

I put 6 1/2's behind the front kickpanels also. My car had factory holes there but some folks have told me that their cars did not have the holes in the metal.......so I guess maybe some do and some don't. I would like to replace the dash speaker, but honestly I don't know how to get to it......Anyway, good luck!! Preston

    Just a tip:
Do a search on the subject of stock speaker grilles.
Someone posted which donor cars have speaker grilles identical to Maverick kick panel grilles.
Then on most Mavs, the back of the kick panel has a template molded in for where to cut in order to match the stock speaker grille.

Therefore, you don't need an extra set of panels to look stock.
You will have stock grilles in the panels, and that is cool no matter how you look at it.
I am pretty sure Torino front door speaker grilles are among those that match our grilles.
    Good luck
    Dave

I finally finished mine today. I cut out around the template on the back side of the kick panel and I used speaker grills out of an old jeep wagoneer. They fit the holes perfect and should be easy to find.

Yep they are in the front door panels and in the cargo area panels too. I was going to snag an extra set but only the back ones were left.

I took a piece of 1/8 steel cut to fit in stock location in dash then installed two 3 1/2'' speakers in it. Drill holes to match stock speaker and install in dash.
