Spectre Performance has posted the (7) finalist for the Maverick Design Contest.
    www.spectreperformance.com/contest/

Lucky enough I was chosen as a finalist. My design is entry #6, however, we're all big boys and girls so vote for the design you see fit. Although, I would appreciate any and all votes from the Maverick community.

For those of you who don't know; designs were submitted for this Maverick a few months ago. Spectre has narrowed it to (7), voting will decide who wins. The winning design will be built in time for Hot Rod Power Tour 2008, with the winner driving the car for the duration.

This year the Power Tour is starting in Little Rock, AR and ending in Madison, WI.

    Thanks, Luke

Good luck. I'll be able to see the finished product in Little Rock as I live right up the road from there. Hopefully will have the mustang done by then

    Entry 3

My wife and I are entry #3, but they left out our photoshop of the final product... here are the images that should have been attached:

You did almost the exact engine I originally designed, but I was worried about going too far over budget. We felt that 550hp or so was a good place to be with this car. My original design was for around 900, but we could have never really used that much power on the autocross and such, and really didn't want to put a full cage in the car and all of the gear required for a 9 second car.
This was a backup color choice:

It was a close tie for me between your entry and #2. I like the turbo 4 banger idea alot. The things I don't like about #2 is the specification of an automatic trans instead of a manual, and I don't like the thought of A/C on a car such as that. Also the persons missunderstanding about the weight of the engine, those engines really aren't that light. Your entry specifiys a 6 speed, so that breaks the tie and I vote for your entry. Good luck!! (y)

    turbo 4

Your right, he mentioned the weight savings of the turbo 4, but the all iron turbo 4 doesn't weight much less than a small block v8. I had thought about the same idea with an Esslinger headed turbo 4, but the power curve and price of a mild 302 with a 70mm turbo was hard to ignore. I thought about a T56, but just decided the extra rotating mass and weight wasn't really worth it at the 550hp level.

Hey All, The winner of the Spectre Maverick contest was chosen last Friday. It looks like they'll be building a Maverick w/ a Supra running gear for Power Tour. It has potential to be a nice ride. Not sure if Lance is a member here or not, but if so, Congrats. The details of the car are still up... www.spectreperformance.com/contest/

Thanks Lucus for being such a classy guy in defeat. In all honesty, I really think your design was the best of them, but I think when the judging criteria came into play, it was probably too pricey to build.

I drove the exact car to High School, a blue '70 Maverick with an inline 6. They've always had a place in my heart. I ran across the car last year on the Power Tour in Little Rock and the Spectre guys talked about the contest, I immediately thought about a Supra Drivetrain in it. I know that the purist will baulk at the idea, but trust me, the car will rock.

Defeat, shoot I was excited about being chosen in the top 7, I never expected 2nd place. I'm sure budget did come into play, it would have been easier if they would have given us a ball-park budget. I can't wait to see this car on Power Tour.
