Getting ready to paint the engine compartment so I removed the speedo cable & housing. Took the cable out and it was dry. The shop manual says use lubricant then and lists a Ford part number, so I don't know what type of lube to use. Last time I lubed a speedo cable was 25+ years ago. I seem to remember that the stuff was black liquid, not thick, with graphite??

Any ideas on type, and how much?

    Thanks.

Best thing to do is take the cable completely out of the casing and wipe it down. Then coat it with white lithium and put it back in the casing.
