Simple question, but obscure. Hope somebody knows... The "O" ring on the transmission side of the speedometer cable. (C4) Looks to be about 3/4" and there doesn't seem to be anything special about it... Can anyone tell me exactly what size I'm supposed to use for that? 'Cause the old one is broken, the new cable didn't include one, and "whatever fits" is clearly the wrong answer. I've got a slow leak from the cable now, and I'd like to fix it whenever that gear I ordered comes in...

What can I to do to seal this thing?

    Thanks!

Yeah, that does seem like a sane idea, and I did actually try it. Went to the parts store and got three in fact. But no perfect matches. One with the right diameter that looked a little thin, so I got one that was thicker but a little loose. Also another that looked to be the right thickness but stretched too much.

None of those sealed right, so I went to Harbor Freight, (God I love Harbor Freight) and got a massive assortment of o-rings for like $1.59. One of those will surely fit, but I'm hesitant because I have no idea if the rubber they're made of is suitable for automotive use. I think they might be just for water. I would hate to put one in, forget about it and have it dissolve one day, emptying my transmission all over the lot while I'm at work.

Bah. I think about this $#!+ too much, don't I? Sorry for the psychotic over-analysis, guys. Never give an IT dude a wrench.

:rofl2:That last sentence cracked me up. Put the friggin Harbor Freight o-ring in it and let us know how it works. I bought one of those kits too so it'll be good to have a guinea pig here. If it dissolves, please let us know! :D

You can get one at a tranny shop for a dollar or less.

Update: it has been over a month.

My Harbor Freight o-ring has not dissolved.

My Harbor Freight battery charger has.

But they exchanged it without a receipt.

    Praise Harbor Freight!

    That is all.
