    sponsorship help

im new to this car thing for drag racing and car shows. I was offered free parts and free paint from somepeople for sponsorship and i was just wondering how this really works so if anyone has a "common" contract or just some ideas and prices. just any info on this type of stuff would be helpful

although i dont have first hand on this. i have had friends get suspension and paint deals done by people who gave them a super low price on the understanding that any magazine articles and car shows they got mentioned. some even required their script on the window or a sign next to the car. it can be a great deal, but like any contract make sure its in writing and check before signing the agreement.

You specifically need to know what they expect from you in return for the free items/services. This needs to be spelled out fully in the contract. If they tell you, "We don't need a contract....just a handshake will be fine".......do one thing: run like hell.

Essentially, it's a "Here's what I can do for you in return for blah blah blah" and then you say, "Here's what I can agree to do for you in exchange for blah blah blah".

Get it in writing and make sure you can live up to the obligations you agree to. Also, once you secure a sponsorship you need to keep up the contact with them. If you go to events or races be sure and send them an email with the event details and some photos if possible. Always make sure you are dressed reasonably well at the events and you have their materials to pass out. This can be flyers and catalogs or simple business cards. Be professional about it and it can be a good deal. Be naive or act stupidly and it can bite you in the butt.

    Good Luck!!!

Not unless they specify that you do in the contract.

personally i prefer no sponsorship unless your into it big time. this way the only one i have to please is myself. and i'm rarely disappointed. :)

i don't like stickers on my car either but when i go to the big races and they pay contingencies for the winner and runner up i put them on. however i mount the decals on magnetic backing and take them off after the race is over. i got the magnetic backing in sheets from the company that did my names and numbers for the car.:)
