Can someone confirm that bucket seats were not an option for Sprints? I'm getting ready to get my buckets redone in Sprint-like pattern. Did any Maverick bucket seats come in a cloth/vinyl combination something like the Sprint bench seat? That would be another possible model. Thanks for any info.
buckets with the Sprint patternt were only available in the mustang and pinto.the mustang buckets are the same as mav buckets so its possible to have buckets in a mav with the same pattern.Just gotta use mav seat tracks on em.Mav buckets can be upholstered in the sprint pattern so its not impossible to get it done.
I already have my seats -- '88 Camaro. Really good shape with tracks for $30. Have them mounted. I'll see if I can find some pics of Mustang Sprint buckets to use as a model. Thanks for helpful info.
The Stang and Pinto Sprints both had buckets. However the Stang used the same seats, but not the same pattern. They would look way out of place in a Maverick Sprint unless you had your rear seats custom done in the Mustang stitch pattern. The Pinto used a pattern very similiar to the Maverick seats, but not exact. The Pinto bucket is different from the Stang/Maverick bucket. Your best bet is to have the Maverick pattern custom made for your seats. You can get all the stock material to have a set made. It might even be possible to get a set of Repop Stang seat covers and then remove the blue portion with the pattern, and replace that portion with Maverick stitched blue material. The big thing that folks don't think about is the piping. The white piping is the standard width, .25" IIRC, while the red piping is only half that thickness. .125" diameter. When the covers are remade with the piping the same thickness, it is a really obvious detail overlooked.
Don't go by the Stang seats. They have a totally different pattern as I just posted (then I saw this post). Picture the Maverick seats as if they were buckets. That is what the period correct non-Sprint bucket seats look like, so it is very easy to see how you can custom make a set.
Here ya go... This is a 72 Maverick original bucket interior. If you notice, it is stitched up exactly like the bench seat. Now you can picture what a Maverick Sprint bucket would look like if they had ever made a set. Blue pleats, white trim, red piping seperating the two, then white piping on the white surround. Edit: I added a Sprint bench for reference and Mavaholic's beautiful Sprint 'shoulda been' buckets. They are custom made, and the only detail that I don't like is the red piping is larger than stock. Your opinion may vary. Either way, he did a great job. Just for giggles, I threw in a glimpse of a Stang seat. I don't have a good one, but this one shows enough of the Stang pattern to see it is nothing like the Maverick seat pattern. Stang used more of a vertical pleat while the Mav used a full on horizontal pleat.
Thanks, Ratio, Yep, Mavaholic's buckets are great. I saw his car one time when we met at an exit on I-85. He was on his way to the NPD event last Fall. Bought some things from him. He had the Sprint in his trailer. Opened it up ang gave me a peak. Very inspiring as I started to redo the rusty, dirty Sprint I had just purchased. At the time I wasn't planning buckets so didn't focus on his. The Camaro seats will also look great in that pattern. I really like the way he had the rear seat inserts extended over the package shelf, but I won't copy that. Its a unique touch on his car. Thanks for the info and pictures. Just what I needed. Jim
