hi all, just a curious question here, i have an extra 4 speed from a 78 mustang II im curious to know if i could put it in my maverick, i think the trans is a R A D (something?) the mav now has a 6 with a 3 on the tree, im thinking of finding a 302 to dump into it, but i want to keep it a manual.. anyone try one of these 4 speeds? im guessing they arnt meant to take any kind of beating..
I'm pretty sure that 4 speed is really a 3 speed with overdrive. It is in a top loader case so you better check it out. Although not a performance trans, Its still not bad to have overdrive.
thanks, it could possably be, i know my granada is a 3 speed with overdrive but i know the trans in it is differnt from this one, heres a pic of the trans
I believe that is a german built 4 speed SROD single Rod Over drive.......not a great trans for performance but for a six cylinder would be fine. I am not aware of its interahange however....The 2.8l v6 in mustang II were german built as well. Later.......
I had a 78 Mustang II with a 302 4 speed. It was not an overdrive. It was also not very durable. I would go with a toploader.
