Fuel cell will be centered as far back as I can mount it. Battery has always been on driver side, but everyone has told me to mount it on the passenger side to even out the weight. So, does this sound OK: Fuel Cell centered, battery to passenger side, and nitrous on driver side facing forward? Any other suggestions?
Definitely. The reason I never bolted it down before is because I ultimately wanted to move the battery to passenger side, and I had do drop the fuel tank to get the bolts where I wanted them. Now that I have no tank, I finally got to welding the rear bumper brackets I have had floating in the trunk for 2 or 3 years, and NOW I can put things where I want them and bolt them down.
Sounds like a good plan to me, my battery is mounted on the right. I'm in the process of installing a cell also. For the fuel cell I removed the tank and found me an old road sign and cut it to fill the hole. Then I cut two pieces of Unistrut for the Cell to sit on. This gives an easy way to strap it down and raise it up for the sump to clear.
I would like to see pics of that setup, Rick. i just posted a thread regarding pics of setups, could you post one there?
Scott, Here's how I did mine, just a battery box holder from 1x1x1/8 angle and a piece of flat 1/8 plate to mount the fuel pump on. The two pieces sandwich around the lower inner fender and require only four 5/16" holes in the inner fender and two in the trunk floor. The angle-iron bracket has two studs that go through the trunk floor and nut on from underneath, they're hard to see in the pic. I changed the filter between the early and late pix...
WOW! That is pretty nice, but is your rear quarter open to the elements? I cannot picture how the fuel pump is attached to the bottom of the battery and you can see it from outside the car???
My battery mounts similarly. He uses the L brackets on the inner side of the fender and mounts the pump mounting plate on the outside of the inner fender thus sandwiching the inner fender itself. its a great use of space. You'd never know there was a battery hidden back there.
That walmart carpet is same I am using in the trunk. Matches my cut pile in the cockpit pretty well. Chris, do you have an issue with fuel in your carpet? If so, I might add a drip pan or something, because I really want my trunk carpeted and solid floored.
Oh, I thought that was a fuel cell under the carpet. The black thing in the middle at the bottom looks like the opening for a cell.
