I was over at 98truck's (George) house yesterday looking at his 70 Maverick Grabber, looks pretty awesome!! Anyways, he was trying to put his steering box back on, after installing his Hooker 6901's....and for some reason, it wouldn't fit, so he had another box, which he tried and it slipped right in place, but it was much smaller than the one on his car. So we looked up the numbers on the tag, and found that it was a Mustang box (69-70) All the holes matched up, the spline size was the same, just the housing was smaller. So I'm wondering if anyone else has tried using one? George was going to install it this week, and let me know how it worked out. From what we could tell, the ratio was different than the Maverick box, but if it gave you more clearance, it'd be worth it.
if that is the case, wouldn't this mean that the flaming river boxes would actually fit? they're designed for 67-70 mustang...
Yes, intresting. My box barely misses touching my headers. I'd like a little more space...if I ever needed to replace it.
We compared them side to side, spline to spline, and they looked the same. George said, he had it up in the car, to see if it would clear, and it did. When we looked it up, it was more turns lock to lock, by maybe 1 compared to the Maverick box, but it was about half the size.
I like the sound of this. Integral power steering would be just a call to Borgeson.They have an integral power steering box for mustangs.Would have saved me a lot of work since I used an Isuzu Pickup box in my Grabber.
steering box Sorry Dave that steering box does not work, 1st It's to short, The bolt holes to the frame don.t match up at all Back to square one again. The other steering box is to big hits the headers
There's a lot of meat on the steering box, you can grind on it to get clearance. I had to "touch" the corner of mine.
