    Hey everyone,

I just bought a 1971 Maverick Grabber to replace the old '74... This thing is awesome... only 21,000 miles on it.. it's in almost perfect body condition, and the only thing wrong with the interior is the driver seat is slightly torn... The owner that had it, had it because his wife's father died, and they got it because of that.. so I guess I'm sorta kinda the second owner.. Anyways.. it was originally a 250 Grabber.. and the guy dropped a 302 in it. which is sweet. But the question I have is should the steering, if it's manual steering be so hard to turn? Like I had a Ranger that had manual steering.. and it wasn't as hard.. maybe i'm just not used to it again.. but I'm wonderin' about it.. Thanks, i'll have pictures sometime of the car.

    Thanks,

    Jason

should not be that hard to turn there a light car ....is the power streering pump on it ?? they may have removed the pump and left all the rest as is ....now the slave cyl is making it hard to turn

its bolted to a bracket on the drivers side frame by the front wheel ...theres a part that you can buy to replace it and make it a real man steering but cost :slap: like 160 bucks  might find some one that has a man set up cheaper

oh... that looks like one of those door things that u put on a screen door.. lol. I guess the power steering fluid is supposed to make that thing move smoother? If I were to take the power steering stuff out of my 74 Maverick, will that work? It has a 250 instead of a 302.

    Thanks, Jason

The pics are coming.. The car is in Statesville, NC right now until I get the tags changed over to drive it up here to VA. I forgot the camera this weekend while I was down there. But when I go to put the tags on i'll be sure to post them :). The car is all original except for the engine... oh and they took the radio out :( and put gauges in its place... i'm gonna have to change that.. lol.

In that case, were you driving it when it was difficult to steer or
    was it just sitting still?

Umm, don't hate me, but I have to ask...were the tires pumped up?

Sorry if these seem like smart alleck ?'s, but usually the simple answers
    suffice.

Also, has the stock steering wheel been replaced with a smaller aftermarket wheel? A smaller wheel would be harder to turn.

Yeah, My 71 Grabber had an 8 in. steering wheel when I frst got it. Kinda looked like a go-kart wheel. I bought a 10 in. and Holy Cow does it make a differance!!!

Stock on these things is a 15" wheel. That, will make a tremendous difference.

Yes it's hard to steer while going, it's also has good inflated tires, and also has stock 15" steering wheel.. this car is all original except for the back rims and the 302.

Are you sure it's manual? Have you double checked? I don't mean to question your intellegence....but maybe it's power steering with no p/s fluid.:slap:
