Hello all, I came across an old thread a while ago that mentioned other 'stock' tachs that might work in the maverick dash. Somebody mentioned using 72-78 Torino gauges. Well, I have a set of torino gauges, and bought a maverick cluster today to start the trial. The first impressions: The torino gauges are both about 1/2 longer than the Maverick They are big enough across the face to match up with the maverick bezel I think the way i am going to make them fit is to fit is to dremal the back of the maverick cluster to allow the torino gauges to fit. to hold the gauges, my intial plan is to cut a piece of thin sheet metal to make a backing. Before the smilees come out holding worthless pics, i will post pics after i get my camera I will take some pics and keep everyone updated.
Here are some of the pics i promised. I was able to get the new speedometer to fit, took a lot of dremal action. It will take more to get the tach to fit since i will have to remove all of the light containers for the stock warning lights. The new gauges are out of a 75 torino, the maverick dash was out of a 74. Will post more pics when i get the tack to fit.
Looks great. What do you plan on for the fuel gauge? My cluster is still in progress, although I haven't actually done any work on it in over a month now.. Glad that thread could be of inspiration to someone.
For full instrumentation, i am planing on putting fuel, oil, temp, and volt all into a center console. A monarch if i can find one, or i will try to build my own center console. If i build it, i am going to add a cup holder. i have the matching ford gauges (not a volt meter though) so i may try to use those. Otherwise, i will try the new Aurora Gauges that have customizable faces. in reality, i have to get a car before i can start worrying about fuel levels
looks good does anyone remember a while back someone using an old cougar cluster/gauges and re doing theirs with those?? It looked factory like the cluster above but had oil ,temp, fuel, and either volt or amp dont remember
curtisc, Nice work! I'm SO interested in this swap. Please keep us posted, and with lots of "how-to" pics please. Thanks. John B
