I finally got the new heads and cam in. After alot of research I ended up going with Canfield Heads and a Comp Cam. The flow, swirl and velocity numbers are exceptional compared to other competively priced heads. Specs are 356A virgin billet aluminum treated to a T6 temper ,58CC CNC profiled chamber, Intake runner volume 192 cc with CNC profiled runners, Intake valve 2.02, Exhaust 1.60. I also put some Ford roller rockers on and ported the intake and exhaust openings on my intake manifold (Holley) these ports were pitiful for an aftermarket intake. I'm still breaking in the cam and have been gentle with it so far but I can tell the difference is going to be amazing. Tomorrow we put the final adjustments on the roller rockers and I'll be able to see what she can do after that.. I'm expecting low 8's in the eighth. Next up is a 3500 stall and a Victor Jr. intake which I hope will carry me into the high 7's I hope ( I wanna rematch Dennis ) P.S. Dan Starnes you were right about the engine...it was not stock, Its been bored 40 over with cast flat top pistons.
Sounds like you're gonna be posting a lot more in the drag racing forum. Let us know how the first outing turns out.
Well we made the final adjustments on the rockers and adjusted the the timing this afternoon and the engine is incredibly strong. I'm not gonna get a time on it before loading up for the Rod Run tomorrow night and when I get back it goes straight back to the shop for the stall converter and intake. I ended up having to put a 100 amp alternator with the built in voltage regulator in it. Very easy conversion to do and it looks pretty decent. The stock alternator is just not enough for an electric fan and fuel pump with everything else on, lights wipers, blower etc.
Are those the Goodyear HiMiler hoses? I am thinking about getting those for mine. I don't know how they will look on mine. It really isn't the era look that I am shooting for. Seth
Well...unfortunately it's going nowhere fast now. The anticipation was killin me last night so I took it to the strip. Go to make my first pass and reel off a ferocious burnout ease up to the line, power brake up to about 1800 rpms and let her go on the green...the car hooks really hard throws me back in the seat, I'm like OMG...then it falls flat, my oil pressure goes to 0, the engine is vibrating really hard and I got smoke coming from the right tail pipe:confused: , still turned a 9.55 limping down the track. I don't know what happened and won't know exactly till we pull the engine but something gave way in the bottom end. I'm still headed to Pigeon Forge tomorrow, just not takin the Mav...I'm bummed Anyone want to venture a guess as to what happened? The car will fire right up and run without a skip but the vibration is so bad and the lifters aren't gettin any oil.
Tuff luck Rick,, yeah, something in the bottom end for sure. As much a pain as it is to drop the pan, you will probably save time and are on the right path in pulling the motor. Keep us posted. Dan
