i was going to look at putting like a thin peice of plexiglass or something behind the panel and push pins like the new cars to hold them on. after that wrapping them with the black satin that im using. anyone else ever try this?
I did this on my other old Ford. I used Masonite board instead of Plexiglas. A guy on the other forum I visit used ABS board he bought from Home Depot. I used new car headliner for the "foam" padding and 2 different shades of grey vinyl . Here is a pic of version 1.0 I'm planning on having built-in arm rest, electric seat switch, storage pocket and embossed logo in v2.0
If you have STRAIGHT & FLAT panels to work with you could always coat, NOT saturate, the cardboard backing of the door panels with fiberglass resin to strengthen them. We used to do this when restoring the old mustang door panels before all the restoration shops started producing them. If you saturate the panels with the resin, they WILL warp on you and once they dry you will not be able to flatten them back out again. Trust me, I've seen it happen. Just offering another suggestion. -Scott H.
