The engine compartment of my '73 is sprayed with a grey speckled material that was supposedly used in airplane engine compartments. It reminds me of bedliner material but is sprayed on thinner. It would look good if it were in better shape, but it's scratched and chipped. Any ideas on how to easily remove it? I thought I'd try some stripper, but since this is supposed to be more chemical resistant than paint, I wasn't sure what would work.

Guess you could try aircraft stripper on a small area. Apply the stripper and cover it with plastic and let it set for a while. The plastic prevents the stripper from drying out to quickly which allows the chemicals to work longer.

We recently restored a 54' Ford F100 where the owner sprayed the store bought bedliner stuff on the inner fenders. It looked positively crappy, and he wanted us to try to remove it. I tried some Aircraft stripper on them and it melted the stuff right off. Do like maverick1970 sugested and try it on a small area and see what happens.

Great! Thanks for the idea! Where can I get it? I assume it's sold at the paint supply?

Yep! Should say "Aircraft grade stripper" right on the front of the can.

I'll look for some this week. The motor is out now, so I figure that's a great time to paint.
