I'm trying to remove the window crank to get the door panel off but I can't get it. How do you remove them? I have removed many in the past by pulling out a clip. The door panels on my 71 Grabber are in great shape (rare too w/maverick emblem) but are old and I don't want to damage them so I'm being extra cautous. The panel is tight against the window crank and I don't see a clip. Thanks, -Erick
nothing stupid about that question. i've never removed them from my maverick, but my 64 fairlane has a clip behind that you remove with a special tool. i got it from harbor freight for about $4.
They are held in with a screw in the middle. It seems to me there may be a sort of a metal sticker over the screw, so you'll have to carefully peel it up.
you guys got my curiosity going. had to go out and check mine. both the 71 & 73 have a screw in the center.
My 72 has the screws also. Can't remember seeing them with clips. I had little stickers over my screws that needed to be removed.
As far as i know they do have a screw holding it in place, never seen them with a clip, just remove the metal sticker .
I think your right, there's probably a screw. I just wasn't able to get the sticker off with a knife or screwdriver and it didn't look like it could possibly be a sticker. It just must be a really good Ford sticker. I'll try again.
Thanks guys, it was a screw and I got everything off. I fixed the window that was not in the guides, rust proofed the bottom of the door, and lubed the window and door locks. Also, the door panel was all broken from the guy before pulling it off haphazardly so I glued that all together and pulled the panel cover over and stapled it just like new. One project down, 1 million to go.
