I am pretty sure my frame is a little bent, giving me a 3/4" lean to the left. I currently have a 1" drop block under the right side to level it out. I have Caltracs, a little more HP due to new 1.7 roller rockers, and MT ET Street tires on and plan on taking it for a spin at the track in a few weeks. My question is...Would it be safer to put the subframe connectors on NOW to prevent further bending of the frame? I would have to cut them off one end or the other at some future date when the frame is straightened, then rewelded. Or should I not worry about it as my engine is moderately weak?
That is what I was thinking, at least stop the twist from getting worse. I can cut the front off when they straighten the frame, then reweld just the front parts, or have the body man weld them on. Unless it moves ALOT and then I would have to cut the entire thing off and reweld them.
too bad there wasnt a way to put weight on the side that is raised so that it would sit flat and then weld it to keep the frame straight..
Do it now. Later may be to late! Cracked glass, wide door gaps, and a strange looking roof aint always easy to fix.
i'd talk to a builder and ask what could be done to straighten the frame out and install the sfc's at the same time. you'd be surprised at some of the things these guys can do. either way i'd get the sfc's on before the damage is beyond repair.
The same reason I am still running 8:1 rotating assembly, trans still leaks all over and flares, and the car is 6 different colors... $$$
Because with a new tailshaft gasket and a tightened band, I will take it to the track to see what it wil do. Track tech doesn't care about the colors or the 8:1 compression...
In my opinion.... If you intend to keep this car and fix it up more over time.... You should go ahead and have it straightened out and the SFC`s welded in. Then you have a straight ,solid car to build on. If you do this now ,you will never regret it. If you skip it now you will probably end up regretting it.
MAV, wrong answer...you are not supposed to give me negative feedback. You are supposed to encourage me to do it the cheap and quick way and let me live with the extra work and expenses later on... I guess I should rephrase my question... Will it harm the car any further if I put subframes on now while frame is most likely bent? I drive it hard, and probably bent the frame myself with the way I take off and drive it. I want to stop the damage until I have $500-1000 to have it fixed, which will be a couple of years AT LEAST!!!
wait on the connectors...take it to the track, flex the frame a few times during the launch and it might straighten itself
