Was real happy with the times Saturday as stated but Sunday was even better for me. Track was hooking and the old "MONT" cranked out a 1.45 60ft and went through the 1000ft lite's at 8.95, beating the all time best of 9.01 Sat. Down side was I was having a case of red light "itus" in the time trials. Lost first round on a red and bought back in. Won the next four with some luck and a couple .580's and 6.0's. Had dialed an 8.98 and ran an 8.986 putting a nice, lady driven Camaro, away(her .909 light really helped) Ran a Torino and lost on my red in the first round, drew him again in the quarter final and spun the tires ever so slightly, and lost on a crappy light and four over on the dial-in. Still was happy with the car and got 50.00 for the effort. Maverick was also victim of red lights, then began to launch with a violent twisting motion. Mavman checked the four link and found right hand coil over spring was collapsed and causing the shock to bottom out. Looks like some Koni's are in the budget before next race day. Hope some of you also got to race, oh yeah, the Torino I lost to, ended up winning the Pro/No E class. Two Fords in the finals and five out of eight cars in the quarters were Fords. Got to love em.
man, it's my turn to be jealous now. haven't been able to race since january because of all the rain here. very unusual for arizona. but i did get 2 days at the national event at firebird (watching). don't know if i'll make the drr big bucks race next weekend in tucson as i haven't gotten my hood or valences back from the painter yet. again because of the rain this weekend. the following week is the first points race at tucson. can you only buy back in the first round. we don't do buybacks here. once your out that's it. they do have them at the big bucks races. can buy back in either the first or second round but only once. wtg on getting to the 1/4's.
Good Job Dave and Congrats on breaking into the 8's... my car is still in the works, but wish to get up there soon to race. Only got to put on one head, poli-locks, and the manifold and find a car and maybe i'll be lucky enough to run in the 12's. haha.
The buy back deal is both good and bad. Can do it either first or second round, but not both. Helps keep the purse payout fairly good, especially if the car numbers are low. Makes the program a little longer but also the spectators get more races for the money. Some say it is not fair and others do??? Mainly benefits the track owners if there are many cars too. We also have a 25.00 pay out for the nine thru sixteen places if there are 60 or more cars in our Pro/No E class(usually is 60 to 75 each week). I have won more rounds on a buy back than not. Besides, for another 15.00, I get to race again, and win or lose, it is a blast.
I have a Holley dbl. pumper race carb(700cfm) that you can borrow to try the car. It is not for sale though. If I don't get better on the tree, am going to have to find a driver for the Mont, who is.
Thanks, might have to borrow it from ya. I know the history behind that carb, and understand you not wanting to sell it. If ya do retire the mont, I'd like to run it one good time That car is sweet. Might have to ride with you again in it. But don't give up racing that thing yet buddy.
Sounds like a great day! Buy-backs are a long talk around here. Both my local tracks do it and only in the 1st round. But, one track keeps the buy-backers seperate from the winners....that way a winner from the previous round can only lose to a winner(I like it that way). The other track throws the "b-b's" back in the mix with the winners....I had 2 occasions last year were I raced the same guy I just beat in the 1st round again in the 2nd. I have played all those staging lane games, get to the lanes early, wait 5 minutes after being called, wait til the final call.....but the way they pair up the cars, you could be 20 cars deep in one lane and race before the 1st car in the other staging lane. But its still a blast.
I got put out by the same guy many weekends in a row. His "status' in the street class is a question in itself. Full gutted drag car and even ran slicks for many years... He can run faster than our 11.50 (fastest time allowed) but he lets off at the 1/8th mile. I got beat by him, bought back, waited 5 mins and STILL got paired up with him Like you said, I've tried hurrying to get there, waiting around, etc still doesn't work. Oh well,
