The next step in the process was the front suspension. It was original with drum brakes and needed updating. The first step was converting the drum brakes to disk brakes. The board really helped with this step. I wanted a racing type lightweight brake system. As far as I could find there are 3 choices. Aerospace Components offers a bolt on version for the Maverick for around $575. Mark Williams also has a version for around $875. Lamb Components could make a set for about $1200. I talked to several drag racers using the aerospace brakes and asked if there were any problems. The reports were universally positive. The Lamb brakes do seem to have less problems with drag, they have something the actually pulls the pad away from the rotor as opposed to a passive process, but they are twice as much. My budget at this point could not justify the Lamb product. Strange and Wilwood do not offer a product for the Maverick. I called Aerospace and in 3 days had the brakes. They were very easy to install, the only thing is that you need an extra washer on the spindle. The Super Stock rules do not allow any altering of the front suspension. It has to remain stock. I completely disassembled the suspension. I sandblasted and painted the coil spring, strut rod, and spindle. I replaced the upper a arm with ball joint, lower arm with ball joint, spring perch, and coil insulator. I am going to replace the shocks with the same QA-1 as in the rear. The rules do allow a travel limiter. My Dad has been running this setup for years. Bolt a piece on angle iron to the frame and drill a hole in the lower control arm. Use a ½” threaded rod between the 2. This makes a simple adjustable travel limiter. It also preloads the front suspension. Thanks for the responses; I’ll have more later

Wilwood do make a set up, it's also about $1200 or $1300 for 11.75 inch rotors. I think that is the size but not sure. All brake jobs a not cheap. Save more money & do it later. Do it right the first time & you want have to do it again.
