Sorry it took so long for another thread. The car project was idle over the winter awaiting chassis shop. In these threads I have told you guys about the chassis, driveline, front and rear suspension. Next up was the engine. The class rules are for a cast iron wedge head available from the manufacturer. Carburation is limited to single four barrel 750. Otherwise internal engine modifications are unlimited. The class record is 9.39. To build an engine to take the record you would need about 2.3 horsepower per cubic inch of engine displacement. I hope to build an engine like this in the future but, I am a new driver with a new car. This engine was designed to last a season without much maintainence. The foundation is a Ford Sportsman B-50 block that I found used on the internet from a guy in Chicago. It had already been machined and was ready to assemble. The bore is 4.030”. The crank is an original Boss 302 steel crank that I had d-stroked to 2.88”. Rods are custom aluminum super 70 series from Manley and are 5.4” with 2” rod journal and 0.927” pins. The pistons are 12 cc domes from JE with Total Seal gapless 0.043/0.043/3mm. Swain Technologies coated the tops and skirts. All bearings are Calico Coated. Oil control with Melling race pump, Canton Windage tray, Milodon fox body pan and pickup. I choose an ATI super damper and Jesel Belt Drive. That rounds out the short block, the next thread will be the top end. Ashton
Time for the strip I hope to be at the track for testing at the end of April or the beginning of May. I hope that my first race will be at the LODRS Points Meet at Red River Raceway in Shreveport, LA, May 20-22. In reality this project has humbled me. I thought I was going to be racing at the end of last year, but, you know how that goes!
Looks and sounds like a good sturdy build...If theres one thing about racing, what you think is gonna happen is usually far from the reality of the situation, I thought I would be testing and tuning about this time next week....pffffttt, I'll be doing good if it's this time next month.
Keep after it. It took me from 1995 when the Corporate Manufacturer class in IHRA Stock Eliminator came out, until 1999 before I actually had everything necessary to be class legal. Don't sweat it, just keep after it. And man does some of that look and sound expensive, yikes. And I thought Dad and I spend a lot of money.... Good looking stuff though... Sure wish I was closer, I would love to see that car... Can't wait. Your Stock - Super Stock breatherin... Raymond...
Looking good Ashton.....its to bad you live so far away wish I could get over to see it funny how life keeps us busy.
That's an awesome car Ashton, can't wait to hear some ET's. What kind of transmission are you going to run. lbr
here you go lbr http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=11461 there is a ss mav 101,102 and so on. You can do a search for the rest....pretty awesome car.
I searched the Similar Threads and found nothing on tranny type. I was wondering if Ashton was going to use a modified Top Loader, Jerico, Liberty, G-Force, etc. lbr
hmmm thought it was on there....its a Jericho. ( I am pretty sure ) seen the car many times and it is still a marvel to me all the neat stuff he is putting in it.
It's a Jerico Thanks for the replies. The class rules allow a maximum of 4 forward gears. I choose the Jerico because of their reputation. It is their DR-4 that took me about 3 months to get secondary to the 7 1/2" input shaft with chrysler 18 spline and chevrolet pilot bearing. The ratio's are 3.08/1.96/1.34/1.0. The rear end has 6.00 gears with a 31.5" or a 30" tire and should cross the line at 8600-8800 rpm. Ashton
You ain't kiddin'! Good grief!! I can't even imagine hitting 8800 RPM's in anything. Wonder what that'll sound like??:evilsmile Probably really, really wicked!! Good Luck!! Preston
