I have always been under the impression that urethane is better for race applications that see little street use, whereas rubber is better for all out street cars due to quietness and better ride quality.

Both posts are correct. I found that when using all poly with supspension components that are made for rubber, you can also run into problems. Poly sway bar end link bushings on my Mustang II ended up snapping the end links off due to a poor design of the end links by Ford. I had the choice of going back to rubber or fabricating a different design end link. It was easier just to go back to rubber.

But make sure you grease those poly bushings, 'cause there is NO sound in the world more annoying than a squeaky bushing. :banghead:

I have the P-S-T polygraphite stuff in my front end. With the KYB Gas-A-Just shocks, it is a little stiffer than I like. When totally cold, you feel and hear every little bump. Once it warms up-driving, it softens a bit. For your 6 cyl. car I'd go with rubber. That is assuming you aren't going racing with it.

They squeak even if you grease them. They don't rot like rubber (so they last a lot longer), and they are more stiff, so handling is better. Ride is stiffer too, which can be annoying for some people.

As for end-links; you can buy the correct ones from Pep Boys and AutoZone, and they are not expensive. They use a Grade-5 3/8" bolt with a Nylock nut. It ain't gonna snap...

Every spring part of my ritual is greasing up the urethane bushings in the rear springs and front sway bar. I'm going back to rubber soon. The stuff they sell now for "rubber" is actually better than what originally came on our cars, a little stiffer and holds up better, but doesn't squek.
