A buddy of mine just wrecked his 87 GT and I am thinking of yanking the motor for my comet. How do these motors run with a carb on them. I had an 89 gt and that thing ran 13s stock on slicks at the track. Can i expect the same performance out of a carb? I have a victor jr intake laying around so i was thinking of putting that on with an F cam. Should i go with that or just work on the stock 302 in it now?

Use the roller block. Roller cams produce more power and rev higher than flat tappets. Also, there is less friction ie loss of HP. The performance with a well tuned carb isn't all that different, but fuel injection is more reliable and starts easier.
