I'm trying to decide whether to put in a 4.11 or 4.22 ratio in my Maverick.
I have an AOD transmission. I'll be driving mostly on the street, with an occasional trip to the drags. Would appreciate everyone's opinion.

i hear that 4.11's are hard on a t5 5 speed trans on the freeway

what motor are you going with ( SPECS )

are you going to use it on the freeway // is it a every day driver from point A to point B

look on youtube and see if you can find a car with the same specs as yours with 411 or 422 and see how it drives and shifts

The engine is a 302 with Windsor heads, headers, cam, MSD ignition. 600 or 750 holley mechanical secondaries. The transmission is an AOD, automatic transmission with Overdrive.

    More gear is always better....:)

The 4.11s will work but the 4.22s will be even better (not that you will notice much difference.

Im surprised at how many people responded without even knowing your overall tire diameter. If you really want the best of both worlds run the 4.11's and buy a second set of rear wheels and run 1 inch smaller tires, which should put you at 4.2X's overall for the track.

If you have a 26" and 4.11's then swap out to 24" rear tires puts you about the same as running 4.50 gears.

Brainsboy has a good point, you can always also go taller to a 28 inch tire for the street but I wouldn't go lower then the 4.11 for street use.
    Besides 9 inch 4.11 are a dime a dozen.

Thanks for all your opinions. I've descided to go with the majority. I ordered 4.11's today.

Yes that would most likely be your best bet, however I am sorry I missed this post because I have a rear that will be going in with 4.62s because of cam and stall selection as well as monster tire hieght. But I believe the 4.11s to be best suited to your application as well as most. Since I have not done the math I may have to switch the gearing in this car to 4.22 or even 4.11.

For my application, here is the math =We can figure rpm at 65 mph by doing this: 65mph X 0.67transgear X 4.62reargear X 336 =67603.536 then dividing with the tire's outside diameter 32.50" wich equals 2080.1088 or roughly 2,080 rpm. Gee that will wreak havoc with converter but is just above the cams poor line this might need a manual trans after all.
I think Iwill start saving for a jerico 4 speed.
    :rofl2: I'm in trouble now! I !...Can't! ..Drive!......55!
Now, lets find out 3rd @ 65MPH in an Aod. =3,104.64 RPM this would be the same as third in a C4 or C6 with my tire and rear gear.
Long live the Mavets and Comricks! Anyone with any tech correct this, if I have made any mistakes please let me know.

The difference between a 4.11 and 4.22 is only something like 2.7% increase. I don't think you'll notice either way. Where you would turn 6,500 rpm with 4.11s, the 4.22s would turn 6,675 rpm.

    4:11 ratio

Save your money. You will not notice any difference in performance between the 4:11's and the 4:22's ratios. If you can go through the traps at your peak maximum RPM range you are ahead of the game. If you still need more gear try a shorter tire, it's cheaper and takes less time to swap. Good luck
