my t-5 in my maverick whines from first till third gear...i've checked the fluid an its full...could it have other issues?
Do you know it's history? Some have been (re)built with aftermarket gearsets that have a low-helix angle or straight-cut gears, those will whine for sure...
I agree with Russ. Whine in 1st-3rd is a common complaint about the T5 when it has straight cut gear sets. As long as your fluid is the right type and it is full, there is not much you can do. Louder pipes will make it go away too ..............
It's common for the front end of the main shaft to be worn/rough and cause noise... If pitch changes with gear selection then it's probably gears as mentioned, if sound is approx same in each gear then it's possibly something else... Above said if you don't have a boot on the shifter they'll emit all sorts of weird sounds... For that reason I once pulled a fresh rebuild back apart because I was sure I'd put something together wrong, nope it was fine...
Yea ive read into the main shaft issue a good bit...im not certain whats in iy as far as gear sets...the po of the tranny said it had been rebuilt with good stuff..also it has no boot
I bought mine new and it's always whined. I just chalked it up to the thin tranny fluid we run in them.
