OK ... I picked up a sport steering wheel for the 74. It needs some cleaning up, it ain't perfect ... but it was only $50. I put a Maverick logo in it already. Now .... should I paint the steering column black or leave it tan?
You made my day, Dan! I am p!$$ed that you got it for only $50 though. No fair!:evilsmile The column should look good either way, but you should paint the center cap on the steering wheel semi-flat black. Looks way beter that way...
LOL ... too late ... I just took the entire thing apart. Steel wooled the spokes and clear coated them and repainted the silver center surround with Silver Argent Wheel paint.
Actually the wheel was dented when I got it ... the top half was bent back at about a 5 degree angle (result of a car accident?). I wedged it between the fork in a tree in my yard for leverage and bent it back straight ... I notice in the picture you can see the scuffs from the tree. I'm probably gonna put a black pleather steering wheel wrap on it anyway because the rubber is filled with a billion miniature cracks ... the beginning of dry rot.
Looks nice, I haven't decided what to put my steering wheel like that in yet. It has the stallion logo though. PS. Anyone know where I can find that clear cap that goes over the horn button emblem for that kind of steering wheel?
Don't have a spare cap ... but have a spare Stallion logo since I removed it when I put in the Maverick logo ...
Man.... I gotta get one of those wheels. They are by far the best looking wheels ever for these cars. Dan, didn't you just sell a nice one not long ago?
I had a really nice one ... Sold it to Nick Dominick .... figured I wouldn't need it .... oh well ...
isn't that a similar wheel that was on mustang II's from the mid late 70's ? it sure looks close to one....looks good by the way.
