Ok well i was reading the forums the other day and got to thinking puttin a mustang t5 with a hydro clutch, and i just wanted some opinions really,,, and please i know how much pwoer they can hold so dont tell me lol
The T-5 tranny is a good one and if you like it put it in. I don't have much of an opinion on what you do to your car. If I am drag racing against you I would be happy that you had a t-5 transmission in your car because I would just have a C4 in mine. Not only do you have more shifts to make but you have at least four chances to mess up a shift and mine would be shifting hard automatically. If this is in a street only fun driving car then as long as you have fun in it put whatever transmission you want in it.
Use a top loader bell housing with the stock mechanical linkage. The hydrolic to bearing system and cable setups are expensive and a pure pain to install. My kid and I put a T-5 in our early Ranchero with all stock ford parts except the adapter plate to the bell housing. Works just like it was from the factory. Simple and not expensive. I love it!
well i dont wanna be rude but whats wrong with a hydro tranny if i have all the spare parts sitting around.....? slave cyclender, clutch mater and all. I would only have to run a longer line and thats it........?
Mounting the secont master cylinder on the fire wall can cause it to weaken the sheet metal. A brace and reinforcement will be needed and then you have to determine pedal throw so you don't go over center and damage the pressure plate and clutch. Same with full release. If it's not right, clutch wear becomes a problem. I try to keep things simple and use as many stock parts as possible.
If you get a hydraulic throw-out bearing you don't have to mount a slave anywhere. Its built in to the throw-out bearing. That makes the hydraulic clutch a lot easier to work with. You still have to mount a master but there are kits for that and usually enough space that it is no a concern.
I have a 4 speed with the hydo T.O. bearing. Same issue there as with a slave. You can go over center on them.
