Good post Jerry, I found out my old Sun Tach II is waaaaaaaaaaay off. So info here will steer me towards my new tach. Dan
Years ago, in my '67 Fairlane, I used a Stewart Warner gauges and tachometer. I got good service out of them. Just about everybody I know uses AutoMeter and that is most likely what is going to go in my cars.
there was a post today on another forum. one guy said he had an autometer tach and with an oscope he found that it was off about 200 rpm at 2500 rpm and about 500rpm at 5500 rpm. i could care less if it's off a bit as long as it is consistent. it's trial and error to find the shift points anyway and once there set i barely use the tach. just the shift light.
The anti-Monster tach I am into the minimalist look. This is the stewrt warner ultra-shift light. Face 1-5/8" - Very small. Digital tach - Perfect accuracy to 10 RPM. Super bright 9 amber LED shift light light up your whole interior. I have one in each of my cars. single shift point with c-4 automatic (still records highest rpm reached) and in my 4-speed cuda, multiple shiftpoints with staging rpm and data storage for actual highest rpm reached in each gear (as well as reaction time for each shift)
a car with OBDII in it... right on the nose all the time. Autometer is what i go with... actaully never had a problem with any other brands but a mallory did short on me before and caused the car not to start.
