I just picked up a pair of NOS tail light lenses for the Stallion and I have a question about them. Maybe I just never noticed this before, but are the lenses supposed to look like these? The clear backup lens on the right side is larger than the left side and the right side is shaped different on the end too. The part numbers are the same on both of them. I haven't had a chance to take the old tail lights apart yet to see if they fit in the housings. Could they be from differnt years?
That does not look right. I just looked at a set from 70, 71, 72, and 76 and they all look the same to me. On the ones you have, even the screw locations are different.
Bizzaro .... I bet the one with the large reverse lens is a D0DZ part and the small reverse lense is a D1DZ part. Both my 1971 Grabber (these were complete black taillights I bought NOS ... not just the lenses) and my 1974 car (factory original) have the small reverse lens. The 1972 Ford Parts manual Lists D1DZ-13450-C as the replacment lense for a 1970 model so I assume the D0DZ version was obsolete by 1972 ... Here is an eBay listing with part number for the early obsolete version you have ... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7938356913 The bezels were still D0DZ parts for the 1970 - 1972 model years so the lens should fit back in your original bezel without any problems. I guess my only concern would be that they used the same shade of red when they changed the design ..
Jean, I only keep up with Comet details. The Comet backup lites got bigger I believe in '74. Good luck- Seth
Thanks for the info guys. That's what I love about this board. You learn something new everyday. For all the Mavericks I have looked at I never noticed a difference in the tail light lenses before. Until now. Now that it's daylight and the weather has calmed down some, I'll take the Stallion's old lights out and see what I've got. Then I'll take it from there.
Jean, if you need a matching set of lenses, I have an extra pair of nice ones here, have the trim too, but is brushed aluminun finish, not satin black Shaun
Gee and I thought I wasn't going to learn anything new today, then I checked this. My car is a 70 and I have never noticed the size difference. I will have to look at the car and some others that I have.
70 is sort of oddball huh?I know the door sill plates are diffrent, and the gas tank, and the tranny tunnel and now the taillights, anything else?
That-a-boy Nick Learn something new all the time on this board!!! attention attention........ NICK ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:bananaman
The inside of the doors on a 1970 do not have the crash support beam in them so they are lighter than the 1971-1977.
The rear shock absorbers aren't staggered on 70 models..both mount on the front side of the axle...remember that if you ever buy a set of SSM traction bars.
