Hi. I have a couple of LED strips that I’m looking at putting under the dash to add as floor lights. (The Maverick didn’t have this package added to it) I want them to turn on when the dome light comes on so this means activating when the door is opened or the light switch is turned on.

Testing the fuse panel shows that it’s hot with current so I can’t tap into it (bay #2 on the fuse diagram). The dome light wiring itself looks like it’s tucked way up under the dash up behind the headlight switch (based on looking at the wiring diagrams) and the door jamb switches are only activated when the circuit is closed (door is opened) unless I’m missing the design behind the 3 wires on the driver’s side vs the 2 wires on the passenger side.
I was thinking about tapping into the dome light wire but it looks like a pita to get to. Any thoughts/suggestions on how to go about doing this? Thanks a lot!
This is on a 77 Maverick.

I added courtesy to my Maverick a few weeks ago. It is very simple to wire. The door jam switch in the diagram is the passenger's side. With the door closed and dome light switched ON...the courtesy lights come on. When door is open, dome and courtesy lights come on.

The dome light wire that you wish to tap into should be under the drivers side kick panel.

How can these lights work w/ doors open and closed? I wud think the only time to have them on is w/ the doors open. Do I have it right?

The stock door switches are normally closed switches meaning the switch closes and sends the power out to the accessory when the door is open as in Jeff's diagram - you also need to wire it this way when wiring up projector lights under doors :)

When u say accessory - u mean dome light? Or is there something else considered accessory other than the dome lite?

The only thing hooked up stock to the door switches is the dome light but, when I mentioned accessory, I was just talking about anything else that you would want to tap into the power out side of the door switch for :)

    I’m in!
Thanks for the diagram, Jeff. That got me looking at the door switches again.
I pulled up the wiring diagrams again and looked at the driver’s side because the 3 wires had me interested in the way they were connected through the system and the wiring diagram showed the courtesy lights attached to it using the Black and LT-Blue wire, which I was able to see. (edited pic attached) I tapped into that, tested it with the volt meter and got power in all situations; doors on both sides opening and turning the dome light on. I connected my lights to it and everything works. Now I’ll just get the lights installed.
    Thanks for the input everyone!

I use the wiring diagram from a 76 Granada. It shows wiring on the passenger's side. Less wires on that side to work with.

You can turn the some light in with both doors closed by twisting the headlight switch.

Ok! I got that. Ur referring to adding other things to the dome light circuit.
I am aware u can bypass the door sw when you activate the dome w/ the headlite sw. I was confused w/ Jeff's earlier post.
After reading it agn I discovered I had misread it the first time. My Bad..
