So here are the pics, I'm not sure what the sequence of events was . . . I'm speculating that an alien landed on the fan blades, causing imbalance which drove out the metal pin which caused the shaft to spin onto the plastic melting it. Also, it's possible that a troll (possibly escaped from Gene's troll dungeon) got under my hood and meticulously hammered out the metal pin that hold the plastic fan onto the fan motor . . . tough to know exactly what happened!
oh and this is what happened to the radiator fins . . . I think from the fan hitting it. Or possibly when I wasn't looking Bryant took a ultra tiny hammer to the fins and tried to recreate a field crop circle . . . again, can't be sure!
My taurus fan booboo was a bit more bloody. I wired it up backwards and as it was slowing down after I unplugged it, I had one of those DOH STUPID moments, and stuck my thumb across the face of the blades to get them to stop moving. For future reference, jot this down somewhere. Slices of thumb move out of the way faster than the blades stop.
well if you didnt get damaged tubes then at least you can gently bend the fins back into line and keep using your radiator... very lucky indeed...
I'm sorry to hear that. you've put a lot of time and money intop your car. no one needs this kind of thing
so Bryant and I went to the junkyard. . . I couldn't go part hunting because I only had sandles on, apparently a no no! He pulled out a nice fan out which I was able to swap into the housing that we cut up so I got it all apart and put the motor and fan onto the old housing. Gotta still mount it onto the radiator but that's it!
I might consider putting some sort of small 2 or 3 inch plate in front of the center of the fan on the radiator...juuuust in case.
I didn't put the tab on right. It looks like I didn't push it in far enough so somehow the fan came loose and hit the radiator. Gene, you bought the same fan as me right? you'll have plenty of space to put a small bar across the radiator protecting the fins.
