Well i searched and couldn't really come up with besides one person saying maybe 2000CFM? i figured i may as well ask and get the truth before i go to a junkyard and get one and i also read the escort one from a 98ish pushes the same but is thinner with only one speed. or should i just buy an ebay/auto store one that's new and pushes 2000-2500CFM what i'm really going for it being able to go through Tim Hortons drive through in the summer (huge line) and not get hot. thanks
My guess on the 2-speed is closer to 3000 cfm on high. I do know it wanted to lift off the ground when I was testing it on the driveway.
The real biggie is the shroud fit. Make sure your drawing the air over as much of the core as possible. IF you go with an aftermarket fan keep the shroud design in mind. You can have a high cfm aftermarket fan but if its mounted in the center of the rad and a small diameter with no shroud your rad just got real small at low vehicle speeds. This is mine of a Jeep Liberty. Fits well in my car.
well what i got for an aftermarket rad is one i picked up at my local store bout 6 months back it was a standard ford aluminum race rad. it measures 21.5" wide 19.75" tall and 2.25" thick.. i believe its close to our original size. thing is what i would like is just one that turns on with the accessory and goes (but will prob burn out quicker?) because the only time ill be driving it will be the summer/early fall when its hot.
The controller on mine works great. ITs adjustable and cost about 60 bucks at Carquest. I think it was a Hayden product. No need to have the fan running drawing all that amperage when your at speed. You'd be surprised how fast the fan turns off once your moving along. I had an l.e.d. wired to mine to help fine tune it. Mine is a single speed fan controller and I'm really happy with its function now. Even on a really hot humid day it doesnt go over 200.
was just looking on ebay...seen a relay here http://www.ebay.ca/itm/12V-ELECTRIC...0613059494?hash=item45fdef43a6#ht_6817wt_1185 was wondering how you think it would work with a taurus fan. then also wondered about this fan...it comes with a thing that turns on at 210 degrees and off at 195.. is it possible to buy a different one that would maybe turn on at like 195 and shut off like 180..? here it is http://www.ebay.ca/itm/16-CHROME-EL...Accessories&hash=item35b764c85d#ht_4325wt_952 your liberty fan looked a little expensive lol. not sure if i could find one at a junkyard here
I thought the Tarus fan was 2500cfm low 4500cfm high. Anyway does a great job cooling my 40+ year old six cylinder radiator in front of a big inch small block.
I had seen numerous places claim the Taurus fan moves 4000+ cfm on high. Problem is there's no standard way to measure fan cfm so the different manufacturers can claim almost anything they want. I only know that mine sounds like a hurricane when it starts up...
alright so im thinking of just a junkyard taurus fan with maybe trying to find a aftermarket thermo activation switch..time to get back to searching online to see if anyone has what i need........for a decent price.
You can use the 2-speed Taurus fan, along with a Volvo 2-speed fan relay controller (#9442933 or #1398845), finishing with a BMW dual temp switch (#61311378073 for 195F/210F or #61318361787 for 176F/190F). Here is the write-up I found: http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=200028
that link is great...exactly what i was really wanting with the perfect bmw temps..thanks for that! now just to try and understand his wiring diagram whenever i get my fan
No problem! The circuit is pretty straight forward. That is the setup I plan on installing in the future. Don't forget you need the metric plug adapter for the BMW sensor. And try to get the Volvo relay from a yard, so that you get the pigtails with it. There are also some links within the thread I posted about pigtails for the BMW sensor. It seems like a lot of work to get everything taken care of, but the results looks very promising.
