I have run electric fans directly to a switch but I run the ground side to the switch. My Sprint was like that for the last 3 1/2 years with no problems. As long as the switch is rated better than the full load amp (FLA) rating on the fan, it will work fine. Worst case senerio is the switch falls apart and the wire shorts to the dash. It will just turn on the fan. Just put the correct rated fuse on the positive lead as close to the source as possible. IMO, if you want manual control, this is the best way to do it.
