Is there a difference between one for an idiot light and one for a gauge ? I have been to AutoZone more times than I care to admit and my gauge keeps pegging as if it was not grounded. I even bought a new gauge (not cheap) and same result. Until, I used the sending unit that came with the gauge in hot water and whola! Both my original and the new gauge works. The problem is, the unit that came with the Autometer will NOT fit under the new dizzy.

So, is there a difference between the two sending units ? There must be or the new one that came with gauge should have pegged also.

Hmmm .. since all electrical gauges come with the matching sender ... not sure if they are interchangeable or not. Maybe you could install it in a different hole on the intake?

With the aftermarket gauge, you will have to use the sender that came with it.

I will make an adapter this weekend to lower the unit under the dizzy.

Major bummer however. I rented a truck and a car trailer to haul it to a show this weekend. After all the fuss with the temp unit I paid no attention to the trailer until just now. THE CAR IS TOO LOW TO GET ON IT! Err. missing a car show for something silly just kills me!

this is something you will have to get used to and get creative in over-coming it.
I have a dovetail trailer and my car scrapes when loading and unloading.
Things I have seen and done:
*Drive the rear wheels of tow vehicle up on ramps, this will lowering the rear of the trailer.
*Make a couple 2x12's to serve the same purpose as above mentioned ramps.
*Be aware of elavation changes in parking lots, use to your advantage
*jack the front of the trailer up, to lower the rear for loading/unloading
