Just returned from NW Missouri, Jim Pollard land. Bought a 71 2dr from him,,, going to be a project. Really was nice meeting Jim, great guy!! We had fun going over to his neighbors house and looking at all different kinds of cars. Jims Mav is gorgeous!!! The pics do not do it justice. He really did a first rate job on it. We all discussed his coolant loss problem,, many different thoughts. I know he will get it fixed, but I feel his pain, it sucks. Dan
Congrats Dan.......you are a real craftsman and I am REALLY looking forward to following this project.
gots pics,, but waiting till sept 1 to post.. the bandwidth thing. Car is solid and from Idaho. my mind is running overtime on things I want to do to it. Just wish I had 20 grand sitting around to do it with. Dan
dan you beat me to that deal. i just sent jim a message concerning the car to see if it was still for sale. congrats and good luck
well here it is, my next mav project. As if my Stallion will ever be done, so many things I want to do. Dan
Geez Dan...tell us about the dang car. 6 or 8? auto or standard? options? Looks solid...that surface rust aint diddly for a DA sander. Man that shop looks a little crowded...you should let me borrow the Stallion for a few years to make room for the new project Have fun with it bud and keep us posted.
Looks good Dan. Any ideas as to how you are going to do it? Sprint clone or Grabber clone, or just a restored grocery getter? Good luck!
Yeah, Rick you are right,, I am lacking on any info. And the Stallion is sitting next to it, under cover as I repaint the rockers this weekend. I will clear shop out once I start on the 71. Car is a 6 banger ( I think dead) and an automatic. Think it had a radio and that is it, maybe a heater lol. My plans are for a 351W based engine, displacement will probably be 427. Want to do an AOD trans. Also I will inject it and probably supercharge it. Going to move the leaf springs inward and widen the wheelhouse to make BIG tires sit under it easily. Stance will be on the ground and am even thinking airbags. I dont know if I will mustang II the front end, or mate a fox bodied stang sub on the front. Will have to do some measuring to see if any Fox bodied stuff is even doable. Will add a cage as I want the car to be very fast yet street legal. Maybe 9's in the qtr mile.Appearance it will look like a 72 Grabber, (my first mav). Inside I will make it comfortable as I really would like to drive this car wherever and whenever I want. AC will be mandatory!! First thing is to build a rotisserie, then tear car apart, then the fun part, bodywork!!!!!!!! Dan
Dan, it looks and sounds like you are going to have a pretty nice project there!!! Most important thing to have a solid body to start with, if you car is anything like mine, it's just surface rust, pretty solid runner other wise. I am going to be watching your progress with great anticipation for sure!!!
Dan could you give me some details on how you plan to move the leafs inward? I'm interested in doing that too.
