You have to look VERY closely and you`ll notice the oil pan in front of the back wheel !
Also note that the flywheel ,along with some rods and pistons are still bolted to the crankshaft!

Looks like the driver is watching the parts go bye-bye (both his and the cars) :mg:

I've heard the term "driving over the crankshaft" before but that is ridiculous!

I think the driver is looking down wondering if anyone will notice the wet spot when he gets out!

Not much different than a sprag failure in a 727 Torqueflite transmission. Parts everywhere.

The car was driven by Jimmy Miles. The photo was at the original Irwindale Raceway here in So.Cal. Jimmy ran the car in the AA/fuel altered class and last year reproduced the car to as it was in the 60's, this time with the crank shaft in the engine. The car will be on display at the Road Kings car show at Johnny Carson Park, Burbank this June 11.

Jimmy is a active member in an other car club I belong to (Road Kings of Burbank, est. 1952). Jimmy is one of the NHRA history makers of the 50'-60's. The club has 4 drag racing hall of fame members. There are 19 NHRA record holders and they include Don "The Snake" Prudhomme (T/F), "TV" Tommy Ivo (4 engine dragster, T/F, T/G, Jet car, F/C), Kenny Safford (T/F F/C), Bob Muravez, aka: Floyd Lippencott Jr. (T/G Record holder, drove the Freight Train, still driving. Will debute a Nostailgia AA/FC at Pomona in May), Don "The Beachcomber" T/F, Tom McCurry (Jr.Fuel & 4 engine), Bob Jenke, Butch Cederquist, Tony Nancy (T/F) and more. Most are still active in the club.

The photo has been considered one of the top drag racing photos of all time by Hotrod Magazine a few years ago and was an award winner at the NHRA Hotrod Reunion.

Go to: roadkingsburbank.com for more info. The complete list of the racers is at the website. Heck, even I'm on the list. I can talk as fast as they drive.

Oh, by the way, Jimmy says he reused the crank!
