I'm thinking about running in the PSCA meet this weekend, but I'm not sure I'm ready. I only tested the car 4 times on a 1/8 mile track. I fixed all the little problems I had before, including all new brakes front and rear.

I might run in the open comp class, which is a form of bracket racing with a set dial in or in Trophy (regular bracket racing). Do you guys think I should do it? It is Fri (test-n-tune), Sat (qualifying) and Sun (eliminations). It is at Fontana (1/4 mile) and I'm a little nervous about possibly going 120mph with the old car. The car did run straight and solid at 93mph though.

I'm totally going to lose in the bracket racing, but I figure you have to start somewhere. Or do you guys think I should do some more test-n-tune first? I'm thinking I'll learn more by jumping into a real race. Plus it is a good excuse to race 3 days in a row.:D

erick, if you go don't get discouraged if you lose. these guys are on their game. they,ve been racing all season and have their cars dialed in. don't get me wrong, there's nothing like the experience you gain at the track and the people you'll meet. plus you'll get a chance to see what the other classes are like. if you go and have any questions look up dan reaume. he races a blue 64 falcon ranchero called "double trouble" in the 10.60 class. i think he also runs open comp. great guy and can tell you all about psca racing. tell him don graham said hello. good luck and have fun.:)

Bah! You probably won't reach 120mph - maybe 117 mph. Don't worry about it. ;)

Sounds like it'd be a fun weekend.

Good luck and please give us a full report upon your victorious return.

I expect to lose first round. I'd consider the experience a fun 3-day test-n-tune and great learning experience. My concern is that maybe I shouldn't be going to the "World Finals" to do test-n-tune, but on the other hand, a regular test-n-tune day costs just as much money.

practice , practice,practice...any way you can get it. SDRA banquet was tonight and I knew it would be dead at the track so I went and just made pass after pass...knocked a little out of the box and cut 3, .009 lights in a row to go with 3, 5.90 Et's....so yea...race all you can and don't get discouraged...just have fun.

I went and it was pretty good. I only got 4 runs all weekend, but lots of valuable exprerience was gained.

Got there Friday 15 minutes after tech closed so didn't get to run, which was OK because I got to do alot of prep work and everything. Saturday first run went 11.90 @ 112mph w/ .121 light and 1.70 60'. Went another 11.97 w/ .060 light, then 12.00 w/ .040 light with engine at 220-230 degrees (fan fuse melted).

I had fuel delivery and electrical gremlins all weekend, but had them figured out by first round (wish I had a few more time trials). Eliminations went 11.900 with a 1.96 60' and 116mph. Slipped at the line and ended up losing with a 11.7 dial in.

Lost like I expected, but now I'm much better and am closer to being competitive. My goal when I decided to build the car was go 11 sec, so making that goal is great.

Lots of Maverick fans out there too(y).

Don: Dan's car broke during the race, he thinks he broke the crank. I met him after he broke and he was still an incredibly nice guy with a great attitude.

dan's one of the nicest guys out there and will help you in any way. glad you had a good time. if you hadn't had the traction problem at the line you probably would have still been in. now that you've gone the experience alone is worth it. i went to tucson last saturday for t&t. talked to a friends wife and found out he was announcing the psca race. his name is bruce mabry. has 1 leg missing. great guy. did you decide to run the series next year? if so what class? dan usually runs both the 10.60 class and the open comp. i have a hard enough time running 1 class at the track. :)

stmanser: I went last weekend and it was FUN and well worth it. See post above.

Maybe next year I can make a trip out to AZ to race and meet up with all you AZ racers. Need to focus on replenishing some funds though. Racing is darn expensive!
